  • ¼ cup shoyu
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sherry
  • ½ teaspoon red food coloring
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • ¼ teaspoon Chinese five spice
  • 2 pounds pork butt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix all marinade ingredients until well combined.
  2. Trim excess fat from the pork butt and cut into long strips.
  3. Marinate the pork by placing it in a zipper-top bag with the marinade; refrigerate overnight.
  4. Let marinated pork sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before cooking.
  5. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and set up a wire rack over a baking sheet.
  6. Remove pork from marinade, allowing excess to drip off, and place on the rack.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, basting every 15-20 minutes.
  8. Broil on low for an additional 5 minutes for extra caramelization.
  9. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
