Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb white mushrooms (cleaned and sliced thick)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 large egg (optional)
  • 1 splash milk (if using egg)
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs (optional)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup ranch dressing (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms thoroughly and slice them thick.
  2. Set up a breading station with flour in one bowl, whisked egg and milk in another (if using), and seasoned breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  3. Dip each mushroom slice into flour, then the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs if desired.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F.
  5. Carefully add the coated mushrooms in batches to the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides (about 3-4 minutes per side).
  6. Use a slotted spoon to remove the mushrooms from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with ranch dressing.
