Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup rolled oats
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup lukewarm water
  • ¼ cup honey

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or stand mixer bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until the butter melts; do not boil.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in honey and lukewarm water.
  4. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients. Knead with a dough hook for about 6-8 minutes or by hand for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a towel to rise until doubled (30 minutes to 1 hour).
  6. Shape the dough into a loaf and place in a greased bread pan. Let it rise again until doubled.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush with honey and sprinkle with oats before baking for about 40 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
