  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp dried culinary lavender
  • 1¼ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (for lavender buttercream)
  • 2⅓ cups powdered sugar (for lavender buttercream)
  • 2 tbsp cooled lavender syrup (for lavender buttercream)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for lavender buttercream)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, crushed lavender, and salt.
  3. Cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by yolks and vanilla.
  4. Gradually alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the mixture until just combined.
  5. Divide batter into pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool before frosting.
  6. For the buttercream: Beat softened butter until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar then lavender syrup and vanilla.
