Ingredients

Scale
  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 60 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 220 g unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 110 g cold water
  • 1 kg apples (Pink Lady, Royal Gala, or Fuji)
  • 75 g unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 190 g brown sugar
  • 1¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1¼ tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp salt (for filling)
  • 2½ tbsp water (for filling)
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust by mixing flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add water gradually until just combined. Form into disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  3. For the filling, peel and slice apples. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat; add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water. Cook for about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Roll out one dough disk for the base and place it in a pie dish. Pour apple filling over it.
  5. Roll out the second dough disk for the top crust; seal edges and cut slits for steam to escape.
  6. Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with almond flour and brown sugar, then bake for about 40–50 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Allow cooling slightly before serving warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream.
